Public Health Monitoring in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Bulletin of January 7, 2026.

Key Points

Influenza and Flu-Like Illnesses

  • Week 5 of the epidemic phase - Following a peak recorded in week 52, in line with forecasts from the Pasteur Institute and Santé publique France, influenza-related activity across all age groups is declining in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins, with a more pronounced decrease in emergency departments.

  • However, vigilance remains essential as the hospitalization rate across all age groups is rising, and among people aged 65 and older, influenza-related activity is still on the rise at SOS Médecins (while stabilizing in emergency departments).

  • Furthermore, the current situation is marked by very low temperatures, which encourage people to stay indoors in poorly ventilated spaces and thus increase the risk of transmission. The strike by private practitioners this week could also lead to a shift toward emergency care, particularly among the most vulnerable.

Bronchiolitis (under 1 year)

  • 6th week of the epidemic phase - Activity is declining in emergency departments and stable at SOS Médecins.
