Influenza

• A very early and particularly long flu season (13 weeks in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and 8 weeks in Corsica).

• A moderate impact on outpatient care, but a higher impact in terms of hospitalizations, with 237 patients admitted to intensive care units in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and 17 in Corsica. Among the latter, a high case fatality rate (24% in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and 18% in Corsica).

• Co-circulation of the A(H1N1) and B viruses throughout the season, but a predominance of A(H1N1) at the start of the season and of B at the end of the season.

• A lower number of outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in facilities for the elderly and people with disabilities during the 2017–2018 season compared to the previous season.

• An increase in overall mortality during the flu season, with an estimated excess of 13% in all-age mortality and 19% among those aged 85 and older in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

Bronchiolitis

• An epidemic that began slightly earlier, but with intensity and duration comparable to previous years.

Carbon monoxide poisoning

• A number of poisoning outbreaks comparable to previous years.
