Epidemiological surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Update as of September 23, 2020.
Key Points
COVID-19
Positivity and incidence rates are declining across the region. The only increase in these indicators is observed in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Incidence rates are decreasing across all age groups.
Stabilization of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for suspected COVID-19.
Increase in hospital indicators across the region (hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and deaths).
Significant increase in the number of reported clusters, particularly in schools, universities, and nursing homes.
Chikungunya, dengue, Zika
Two outbreaks of locally transmitted dengue have been detected in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region this year To date, in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes department, an outbreak of 5 locally transmitted cases has been confirmed. The cases began showing clinical symptoms between August 11 and September 4. In La Croix-Valmer, in the Var department, 3 locally acquired cases have been confirmed. They presented their first symptoms between August 1 and 10. Vector control measures were implemented as soon as the first locally acquired case was identified in each of these outbreaks. Active case-finding efforts have been launched: raising awareness among healthcare professionals; door-to-door surveys in areas identified as at risk. The primary imported cases responsible for these two outbreaks have not yet been identified. Increase in hospital indicators.Apart from these 8 locally acquired cases, since the start of surveillance, 59 confirmed cases of dengue, mainly imported from the French departments in the Americas, have been reported. More info on page 5. Low to moderate allergy risk associated with ragweed and grass pollens.
Asthma in children
As is the case every year, emergency departments in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region are seeing an increase in visits for childhood asthma in September. This trend is also being observed by the SOS Médecins network.
