Epidemiological surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Update as of January 27, 2021.
Key Points
COVID-19
Increase in all health indicators:
At the regional level: regional testing, incidence, and positivity rates are rising and exceed national rates.
At the departmental level: viral circulation is increasing in the Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Var departments.
Sharp increase in ICU admissions (and other critical care admissions) and general hospitalizations for COVID-19 (active cases).
Increase in the number of hospitalized deaths, at a high level.
Increased activity in emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics for suspected COVID cases.
Impact remains significant in social and medico-social establishments (ESMS);
Increase in the number of clusters reported outside of ESMS.
Bronchiolitis
Emergency departments: although there has been a slight increase in visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age over the past two weeks, the proportion of visits remains low.
SOS Médecins: the proportion of consultations for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age remains low.
Virological surveillance: Since the start of surveillance, 8 RSV cases have been isolated by the Rénal network (data not available for the week analyzed).
Activity in emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics is lower than in previous years. This situation is likely due in large part to the implementation of Covid-19 prevention measures.
Gastroenteritis
Emergency departments: activity in emergency departments related to gastroenteritis is up compared to the previous week but remains low.
SOS Médecins: Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to gastroenteritis is slightly lower than the previous week and remains low.

Activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins is lower than in previous years. This situation is likely due in large part to the preventive measures implemented against COVID-19.
Influenza
Emergency departments: activity in emergency departments related to flu-like syndromes remains very low.
SOS Médecins: Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to influenza-like illnesses remains very low.
Sentinelles Network: The incidence rate of influenza-like illnesses reported by the Sentinelles Network in week 03, not yet consolidated, is 34 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [0; 71]).
