Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 13, 2020.
Key Points
COVID-19
All epidemiological indicators remain at a high level, but a slowdown in the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was observed in S45.
In terms of virology, a decrease in all virological indicators was observed in S45: a decline in the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases and the incidence rate (325 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), a decrease in the testing rate (2,048 people tested per 100,000 inhabitants) and the positivity rate (15.8%). All age groups show declining indicators, except for those under 15 years of age.
The weekly number of reported clusters rose sharply in W44 and W45, with 69 and 72 clusters reported, respectively (compared to 50 in W43). These reports primarily involved workplaces (businesses), schools and universities, and nursing homes for dependent elderly individuals (Ehpad).
A decrease in the number of SOS Médecins calls for suspected COVID-19 was also observed in Week 45. The increase in emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 continued in Week 45 at the regional level, but to a lesser extent than the previous week. This trend particularly affected those under 15 and those over 65, with a significant increase in the latter group in Mayenne. Similarly, a sharp increase in reports from ESMS/Ehpad facilities has been observed since Week 43, reaching levels similar to those seen in early April (Week 45 data not yet consolidated).
In hospitals, the weekly number of new hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients and the number of new admissions to intensive care units for COVID-19 patients, which had been rising since Week 42, continued to increase at the regional level in Week 45.
Bronchiolitis
SOS Médecins: no significant increase in SOS Médecins calls for bronchiolitis among children under two years of age; indicators, already at a low level, are decreasing.
Pediatric emergency departments—Oscour®: no significant increase in emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under two years of age; indicators, already at a low level, are decreasing.
Virology data from the Nantes University Hospital laboratory: no positive RSV isolates at Nantes University Hospital last week.
