Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of February 18, 2014.
Over the past week in the region:
The flu epidemic continues, with the number of consultations for flu-like symptoms remaining above thresholds (SOS Médecins and the Unified Grog/Sentinelles Network) and an increase in isolates of influenza A virus.
In total, 18 cases of severe influenza, overwhelmingly type A, have been reported by intensive care units in the region, representing 8 new cases since last week. The age distribution shows a peak among people aged 40 to 64, as observed during previous seasons characterized by the circulation of the A(H1N1)p virus.
The season is characterized by a low number of reports of clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes in the region.
The number of gastroenteritis cases seen by SOS Médecins remains moderate, as do outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis in nursing homes.
Decrease in the number of bronchiolitis cases in the emergency department at Nantes University Hospital and during consultations with SOS Médecins.
