Improving Health Monitoring for Children and Adolescents at Risk [Interview].
At the Nantes University Hospital (CHU), the Intake Unit for Children at Risk provides care for children and adolescents undergoing screening consultations when abuse is suspected, or for medico-legal services (interviews and examinations at the request of minor victims). From these twenty years of experience came the idea of including minors under protective measures (educational assistance or placement) in a coordinated care pathway, with early physical and mental health care. The unit’s letter of intent, submitted under the framework for health innovation pilot programs introduced by Article 51 of the 2018 Social Security Financing Act, was submitted at the national level by the Directorate General for Social Cohesion (DGCS) and approved by a decree dated June 3, 2019, issued by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. This innovative program will first be piloted in Loire-Atlantique, then expanded to two other departments—Haute-Vienne and Pyrénées-Atlantiques—at the initiative of public authorities. Through structured and early medical monitoring, professionals are convinced that it is possible to improve these children’s health and reduce emergency hospitalizations or the need for care in complex cases.
