Epidemiological Situation
In Réunion, bronchiolitis outbreaks occur every year during the southern summer. The 2016–2017 season was marked by a late outbreak (early February) that was notable for its duration (13 weeks versus 7 weeks in previous seasons). The epidemic peaked in week 10 (March 6–13, 2017) and ended in week 18 (May 1–7).During the month of May, emergency department activity for bronchiolitis continued to decline, and the proportion of visits for bronchiolitis was below the epidemic threshold during the last two weeks. In total, during the outbreak, 801 visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were recorded.
