Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of May 26, 2017.

Epidemiological Situation

In Mayotte, bronchiolitis surveillance is based on activity data from the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) and from the network of sentinel physicians. The 2016–2017 bronchiolitis epidemic, which began in December 2016, ended in early May 2017.The 2016–2017 season was marked by an epidemic notable for its duration (22 weeks). The epidemic peaked in week 9 (February 27 to March 5, 2017) and ended in week 18 (May 1 to 7).During the month of May, emergency department activity for bronchiolitis continued to decline, and the proportion of visits for bronchiolitis was below the epidemic threshold during the last two weeks. In total, during the outbreak, 656 visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were recorded.
