Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of March 30, 2017.
Epidemiological Situation
In Mayotte, surveillance of bronchiolitis is based on activity data from the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) and from the network of sentinel physicians.
Following an initial wave of the outbreak in December 2016, an increase in bronchiolitis cases in the CHM emergency department was observed in February, a few weeks after schools reopened.
Over the past three weeks, the bronchiolitis outbreak in the emergency department has been subsiding, with a downward trend in activity.
In total, between December 5, 2016, and March 26, 2017, 474 visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were recorded in the CHM emergency department.
In this context, it is important to remind the public of hygiene measures to limit the spread of this condition.
