Status of bronchiolitis in Réunion. Epidemiological update as of March 8, 2017.
Since early February 2017, there has been an increase in emergency room visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age in Réunion. Although slightly later this year, this trend is typical for this time of year and marks the start of the seasonal epidemic. Virological data show that RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the main virus responsible for bronchiolitis, has been circulating on the island since December 2016.The evolution of the epidemiological situation will continue to be closely monitored in the coming weeks. The increase in emergency room visits underscores the importance of reminding the public of appropriate preventive measures during this southern summer season.
