Health Surveillance in Réunion. Bulletin of March 6, 2026.
Key Points
Mpox
Six cases (including two imported cases) were identified in Réunion between S05 and S08/2026.
Leptospirosis
A seasonal resurgence of leptospirosis is currently underway at a high level: 60 cases have occurred since the beginning of the year.
Arboviruses: dengue and chikungunya
Sporadic local cases of arboviral diseases have been reported since the beginning of the year. To date, 13 cases of dengue and 16 cases of chikungunya have been detected.
In the presence of any flu-like syndrome, the differential diagnosis of “chikungunya/dengue/leptospirosis” must be considered. Indeed, cases of these three diseases are being reported.
Malaria
Since December, there has been an increase in the number of imported malaria cases, primarily among travelers returning from the Comoros. Nine cases were reported in December and 18 in January. A decline began in February (5 cases to date). We urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and remind them that, until proven otherwise, any fever upon return from an endemic area should be considered a case of malaria.
Flu-like syndrome
Health indicators remain at a low level.
Bronchiolitis in children under 2
Health and virological indicators are at baseline levels. No health impact.
Gastroenteritis (GE)
Activity is declining in hospitals and primary care settings. Covid-19: Health and virological indicators are declining.
