Key points
Gastroenteritis
The gastroenteritis outbreak is still ongoing; the seasonal pattern of this outbreak has shifted this year, beginning in August (traditionally June–July), and indicators began to decline in week 44;
the number of positive samples for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) has remained stable at a high level for several weeks;
the proportion of Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) and Non-Adherent Escherichia coli (DAEC) identified in the majority of analyzed stool samples has been rising for the past 3 weeks, while the proportion of Rotavirus has been decreasing for several weeks;
sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) in pharmacies are declining and are at the same level as the peak recorded during the same period in 2014–2022;
the rate of emergency department visits for gastroenteritis has been stable in recent weeks, but remains significantly higher than the rates observed in previous years during the same period;
Since the start of the GEA outbreak, 19 severe cases have been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM).
Bronchiolitis
A slight increase in the activity rate for bronchiolitis in week 44, which is at the level of previous seasons.
Influenza
A sharp increase over the past 4 weeks in positive respiratory specimens and the positivity rate for Influenza A(H3N2), with the outbreak entering the epidemic phase in week 44.
