  • From January 1 to May 25, 2022, 54 cases of typhoid fever were reported to the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS) by the CHM laboratory (incidence rate (IR) = 19.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants)

  • 32 cases (59%) were hospitalized for at least one night, 5 cases were admitted to the ICU, and no deaths have been recorded to date

  • 36 cases (67%) occurred between weeks 17 and 20 of 2022

  • From 2016 to 2021, an average of 39 cases of typhoid fever per year were reported to the ARS Mayotte

  • Typhoid fever is an endemic disease in Mayotte, a department facing particularly precarious conditions with limited access to running water and an inadequate sanitation system
