From January 1 to May 25, 2022, 54 cases of typhoid fever were reported to the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS) by the CHM laboratory (incidence rate (IR) = 19.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants)
32 cases (59%) were hospitalized for at least one night, 5 cases were admitted to the ICU, and no deaths have been recorded to date
36 cases (67%) occurred between weeks 17 and 20 of 2022
From 2016 to 2021, an average of 39 cases of typhoid fever per year were reported to the ARS Mayotte
Typhoid fever is an endemic disease in Mayotte, a department facing particularly precarious conditions with limited access to running water and an inadequate sanitation system
