Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of June 30, 2019.
Key Points
The number of clinically suggestive cases continues to decline (564 and 330 in S25 and S26, respectively); more than 47,000 clinically suggestive cases since the beginning of 2019.
The number of confirmed cases continues the decline that began in mid-May: Week 25 = 151 and Week 26 = 103 confirmed cases (unconsolidated data). More than 17,000 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of 2019.
However, nearly all of the island’s municipalities (20 out of 24) remain affected by viral circulation.
St. Pierre remains the largest cluster (16% of cases), followed by St. Leu (15% of cases).
St. Joseph, Etang-Salé, and St. Paul are seeing their proportion of cases rise again.
Among locally acquired cases, the DENV1 serotype has now been identified across the entire island.
Vigilance remains essential regarding differential diagnoses, particularly for measles, as new cases continue to be diagnosed regularly (46 cases reported since April, including 3 in S26).
