Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of July 12, 2022.
Key Points
With the arrival of the southern winter, the number of new dengue cases has been declining sharply since Week 17. Réunion has remained in an inter-epidemic period since the beginning of the year.
The southern region is the area most affected by dengue. It has accounted for 57% of cases since the beginning of the year.
The number of emergency room visits has been decreasing since Week 23. Last year, this number stood at 3,832, including 107 in Week 26.
Since the beginning of 2022, 57 hospitalizations have been recorded. These figures have remained stable since week 23. In 2021, there were 1,077 hospitalizations lasting more than 24 hours, including 25 during week 26.
Only the DENV-1 serotype is currently circulating in the region (330 serotyping tests performed on 458 positive PCRs from January to June 2022), and this has been the case since 2021.
For the month of June 2022, the positivity rate is below 2%. It is calculated as the ratio of positive PCR tests to the total number of PCR tests and is reported by the laboratories.
No new dengue-related deaths have been reported.
