Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of December 7, 2021.

Key Points

In Réunion, following a massive epidemic in the late 1970s—estimated to have affected 30% of the population—the circulation of the dengue virus has been characterized by limited epidemic episodes (fewer than 300 cases per year) in some years and sporadic cases in others. The DENV1, DENV2, and DENV3 serotypes were involved alternately. In 2017, viral circulation persisted during the southern winter and marked the beginning of viral circulation that has continued uninterrupted to this day.

This summary presents the main data from S01-2018 to S35-2021 and provides an update on circulation in anticipation of the 2022 southern summer.
