Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of August 9, 2022.
Key Points
With the onset of the southern winter season, the number of new dengue cases continues to decline gradually.
For weeks S29 and S30, dengue cases were reported in 9 of the island’s 24 municipalities, specifically in the western and southern regions.
The number of emergency room visits for suspected dengue remains stable at 1 to 2 visits per week. Last year, these visits totaled 34 and 29 in weeks 29 and 30, respectively.
Since the beginning of 2022, 58 hospitalizations have been recorded, including one new case in week 28. The most recent hospitalizations occurred in week 22. In 2021, there were 1,144 hospitalizations lasting more than 24 hours, including 7 in week 30.
Only the DENV-1 serotype is currently circulating in the region (329 serotyping tests performed on 461 positive PCR results from January to July 2022), and this has been the case since 2021.
No new dengue-related deaths have been reported.
