Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of April 19, 2022.

Key Points

  • Despite the increase in weekly cases, Réunion remains in an inter-epidemic period for dengue (data from week 14). In fact, this increase is significantly lower than in previous years, as for the past four years, the resurgence of the epidemic has occurred around weeks 8 and 9.

  • The South and West sectors account for 85% of dengue cases on the island, with 55% and 30% of cases, respectively. The most affected municipalities are: Saint-Pierre (22 cases); Saint-Joseph (20 cases); Saint-Paul (17 cases); Saint-Louis (15 cases); Saint-Denis (13 cases); Saint-Leu (13 cases); Le Port (10 cases); Le Tampon (10 cases).

  • The number of emergency room visits increased in S13 compared to S12.

  • One new hospitalization was recorded in Week 13, and data consolidation revealed one new hospitalization for both Week 09 and Week 08. It should be noted that in 2021, from Week 01 to Week 12, this number totaled 344.

  • Only the DENV-1 serotype is currently circulating in the region (46 serotyping tests performed on approximately 180 positive PCR results from December 2021 to March 2022).
