Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of September 18, 2018.

Epidemiological Situation

Since the beginning of 2018, 6,573 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 8 imported from Polynesia, Brazil, Thailand, and Myanmar) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 among locally acquired cases is DENV-2 (911 genotypes identified). This situation follows an unusual, low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.

In week S2018-36 (data from September 3 to 9):

  • 10 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset

  • Confirmed and probable cases were located: - In the west: St-Paul - Bus Station and Etang (2 cases), Saint Gilles les Hauts (2 cases), St Paul - Bois de Nèfles, Le Guillaume, and La Saline (1 case each), Le Port (1 case), Saint-Leu (1 case),

  • In Sainte-Joseph (1 case)
