Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of June 12, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 4,604 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 3 imported cases) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 is DENV-2 (895 genotypes). This situation follows an unusual, low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-22 (May 28 to June 3):
351 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset.
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located in: - In the west: Bois de Nèfles and La Plaine (64 cases), St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (50 cases), Le Port (53 cases), La Possession (41 cases), Le Guillaume (11 cases), St-Gilles-les-Bains (37 cases), St-Leu (29 cases), St-Gilles-les-Hauts (11 cases), La Saline (6 cases),- In the south: Ravine des Cabris (11 cases), St-Pierre (7 cases), Etang Salé (4 cases), St Louis (7 cases), Le Tampon (3 cases), St Joseph (3 cases), and Avirons (1 case).
