Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of July 10, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 5,970 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 3 imported from the Maldives, Polynesia, and Brazil) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 is DENV-2 (910 genotypes identified). This situation follows an unusual low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-26 (June 25 to July 1):
158 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset.
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located: - In the west: Bois de Nèfles and La Plaine (24 cases), St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (15 cases), Le Port (26 cases), La Possession (24 cases), St-Gilles-les-Bains (11 cases), St-Leu (16 cases), St-Gilles-les-Hauts (8 cases), La Saline (2 cases), - In the south: Ravine des Cabris (1 case), St-Pierre (3 cases), Etang Salé (4 cases), St Louis (7 cases), Le Tampon (1 case), Entre-Deux (1 case), Saint-Joseph (2 cases), and St Philippe (1 case).- In the north: Ste Clotilde (2 cases), Ste Suzanne (1 case), Sainte Marie (3 cases).- In the east: St-Benoit (1 case), Ste-Anne (1 case), Ste-Rose (1 case).
