Dengue Surveillance in Mayotte. Update as of January 7, 2020.
Key Points
Since March 30, 2019, 252 cases of dengue fever have been reported to the Health Surveillance, Alert, and Management Unit (CVAGS) of the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS). Of these cases, 234 were confirmed by PCR, 9 by Rapid Diagnostic Test (TROD) and PCR, and 9 by TROD alone.
Of all confirmed cases, only 20 were linked to travel outside the department of Mayotte.
Following a decline in viral circulation between weeks 38 and 43 of 2019, a new surge in dengue cases has been observed in Mayotte, with 108 new confirmed dengue cases since October 28, 2019 (week 44).
Seventy-three of the 108 new cases reported since week 44 (68%) are located in the municipality of Mtsamboro.
Particular vigilance is required during this rainy season, which favors an increase in mosquitoes that transmit the disease.
