COVID-19: Epidemiological Update from the Meeting on November 5, 2021

Key Points

  • In Réunion during Week 43, the resurgence of viral circulation continues, with a significant increase in the incidence rate (IR) and the positivity rate (PR). The IR has exceeded the alert threshold (50 per 100,000 inhabitants), while the PR remains below the vigilance threshold (5%). The number of new hospitalizations and ICU admissions was decreasing and therefore remains at low levels. The Delta variant remains dominant on the island.

  • Despite an increase in vaccination rates among younger people and stabilization among older adults, vaccination coverage remains insufficient. Thus, against the backdrop of the lifting of the public health emergency, still-insufficient vaccination coverage, and the metropolitan school vacation period, it is advisable to continue the combined measures—vaccination, preventive measures, and contact tracing—to limit the spread of the virus and prevent any resurgence of the epidemic.
