COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Mayotte as of May 5, 2022

Key Points

  • Since Week 6, the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been low in Mayotte, below the alert threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. While a slowdown in the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic has been confirmed across all metropolitan regions and age groups, in Mayotte the start of school vacation at the end of Week 17 has led to a rise in indicators across the territory.

  • Indeed, in week 17, with 90 confirmed cases, the incidence rate stood at 32.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, representing a 67% increase compared to week 16 (54 confirmed cases, incidence rate of 19.3 per 100,000 inhabitants). This incidence rate for Week 17 is the highest rate recorded since Week 6.

  • In mainland France, the incidence rate was sharply declining across the entire territory in Week 17. In the overseas territories, the incidence rate decreased in Réunion but remained at a very high level (1,300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a 32% decrease compared to Week 16). It remained stable in Martinique (567, -5%), Guadeloupe (680, -3%), and French Guiana (153, +1%).
