COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Mayotte as of January 13, 2022

Key Points

Indicators continue to deteriorate rapidly. The incidence of COVID-19 rose from 932.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 52 to 2,533 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 1, representing a threefold increase in cases over the course of a week. This sharp increase in incidence is due to the accelerated spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Mayotte, particularly the Omicron variant, which is now the dominant strain in the territory.
