COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Viruses in Réunion. Update as of June 2, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • Viral circulation continues the decline that began in Week 17, with an incidence rate of 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a decrease of 22% compared to Week 20. The positivity rate is 19%. At the same time, we continue to see a decline in new hospitalizations, with a notable decrease in new admissions to intensive care for the first time. Deaths continue to fluctuate at a low level.

  • The Omicron variant still accounts for 100% of interpretable sequences, with the BA.2 sublineage dominant. The BA.4 and BA.5 sublineages of the Omicron variant have been detected in Réunion.

Influenza

  • Pre-epidemic phase.

  • There has been a slight increase in emergency room visits compared to the previous week (13 vs. 5), with a very low health impact and only one hospitalization. In community practice since May 1, 2022, via the sentinel physician network, eight positive samples for influenza A(H3N2) have been identified. In this context, the epidemiological dynamics of influenza remain under control. Réunion remains in the pre-epidemic phase.
