COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Viruses in Réunion. Update as of August 11, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
After six weeks of rising viral circulation, starting in Week 24, Week 31 marks a significant decrease in the incidence rate, which has dropped to 528 cases per 100,000 people. The effective R has fallen significantly below 1. The positivity rate was rising slightly, while the testing rate was falling sharply.
Regarding hospital indicators, new hospitalizations remained stable at an average level, as did admissions to intensive care. Deaths continued to fluctuate at a low level.
Influenza
Regarding other respiratory viruses, in Week 31, Réunion entered the pre-post-epidemic phase due to low circulation of influenza viruses in both community and hospital settings. The decline in emergency department visits in Week 31 is also consistent with this pre-post-epidemic phase.
Bronchiolitis
At the same time, emergency department visits due to bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were once again on the rise but remained below the epidemic threshold.
