As the Hajj pilgrimage is about to begin, healthcare professionals in Réunion and Mayotte must be prepared for the possibility of MERS-CoV infections among pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia. Indeed, experience shows that early suspicion and isolation of suspected patients can prevent secondary cases, whereas patients seeking care at multiple facilities and a lack of precautions can lead to hospital outbreaks.
