Surveillance of arboviral diseases in the Occitanie region. Epidemiological update as of August 10, 2020.

Key Points

From May 1 to November 30 each year, Santé publique France coordinates, in conjunction with the relevant Regional Health Agencies (ARS), enhanced seasonal surveillance for chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in metropolitan departments colonized by the vector mosquito, Aedes albopictus.
In Occitanie, since May 1, 2020, 19 imported cases of dengue have been confirmed: the individuals concerned were returning from Martinique (7), French Guiana (4), Guadeloupe (3), Réunion (3), Saint Barthélemy (1), and Costa Rica (1). No cases of chikungunya or Zika have been identified. The first instance of local dengue transmission was detected in the Hérault department.

Nationwide, from May 1 to August 7, 2020, the following were confirmed:

  • 104 imported cases of dengue,

  • 3 imported cases of chikungunya,

  • 0 imported cases of Zika.
