Public Health Surveillance in the Midi-Pyrénées Region. Epidemiological Update as of March 28, 2014.

Key Development

End of the flu epidemic in mainland France The incidence rate of consultations for flu-like symptoms (Sentinelles/Grog unified network) has fallen below the epidemic threshold for the second consecutive week, confirming the end of the epidemic. At the same time, all other indicators (emergency room visits, severe cases admitted to intensive care, outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes, confirmed influenza viruses) also continued to decline across all regions. The epidemic was characterized by the co-circulation of influenza A(H1) and A(H3) viruses in outpatient settings. A national assessment of the 2013–2014 winter epidemic will be conducted in April. A summary of indicators for Week 12 at the national and regional levels is available on pages 6 through 8 of this bulletin.
