Health Monitoring in the Occitanie Region. Update as of August 11, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
According to data available as of August 10, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., 1,395 COVID-19 patients were currently hospitalized in Occitanie, 6% of whom (N=89) were in critical care units (ICU, intensive care, and continuous monitoring).
At the regional level and across all age groups, the weekly number of new hospitalizations decreased in week 31 compared to the previous week (430 versus 542, a decrease of 21%). The number of new admissions to critical care units increased (61 versus 72, a decrease of 15%).
The R value estimated from regional SI-VIC data through August 7, 2022, was 0.82 (0.74–0.90), stable compared to the previous week.
Monkeypox
230 confirmed cases in Occitanie as of August 9, 2022.
Extreme heat, heat wave
As of August 11, an analysis of regional emergency care visits for heat-related effects (data through August 10, currently being consolidated) showed a regional increase from July 31 to August 5 in heat-related conditions (iCanicule composite indicator) across all age groups, particularly among those aged 75 and older. This increase is not currently considered unusual given the current weather conditions. A further rise in some of these indicators has also been observed over the past three days, but this trend needs to be confirmed as data is consolidated in the coming days.
The heat wave that began in southeastern France on Sunday, July 31 (3rd wave) is now continuing along the country’s western coast (4th wave). As of 4:00 p.m. on August 10, six departments in the Occitanie region were classified under a heat wave alert (Haute-Garonne, Gers, Lot, Hautes-Pyrénées, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne). Along the Mediterranean coast, the departments of Pyrénées-Orientales and Gard have no longer been under a heat wave alert since August 2 and August 9, respectively.
