COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Occitanie as of December 10, 2020

Key Points

COVID-19: Trends in indicators across Occitanie show a decline in viral circulation at the regional level, but stabilization or even a resurgence of circulation in certain departments within the region

  • In Week 49, COVID-19 syndromic surveillance indicators (use of emergency care, visits to private practices) showed a slight decrease at the regional level compared to the previous week. At the departmental level, virological indicators were decreasing or stable in most departments, including the most populous ones (Gard, Haute-Garonne, Hérault), but were increasing in Ariège, Aude, Gers, Lot, Hautes-Pyrénées, and Pyrénées-Orientales. In contrast, the weekly numbers of new hospital admissions and admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) were decreasing at the regional level. The R-effectif values estimated from SI-DEP, OSCOUR®, and SI-VIC data were all significantly below 1 at the regional level.

  • Regarding mortality data, the decline in the weekly number of hospital deaths continues, as does the decline in all-cause deaths. For the latter, significant excess deaths among those aged 75 and older were still observed in week 48 in the Gard and Hautes-Pyrénées.

  • The trend in these indicators reflects a decline in viral circulation at the regional level but a stabilization, or even a renewed increase in circulation, in certain departments of the region.
