Surveillance of Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. 2022 Report.

Key Points

  • From May 1 to November 30, 2022, 42 reports were received. Of these reports, 33 imported cases were identified as probable or confirmed:

    • 30 cases of dengue

    • 3 cases of chikungunya

    • no cases of Zika

  • The cases were identified in 7 departments in the region: Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Gironde, Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Vienne, and Haute-Vienne. The main travel destinations were: Cuba, the Philippines, Thailand, and Mexico. For 30 of the 33 confirmed or probable cases reported in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a mosquito control operator was called in.

  • In total, 55 investigations were conducted regarding confirmed or probable cases, whether they were residents or visitors to the region. These investigations led to 6 larvicidal treatments (in Charente-Maritime, Landes, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and 45 adulticidal treatments (in Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Gironde, Landes, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

  • A locally acquired case of Usutu virus infection, with symptoms beginning on September 18, 2022, was confirmed by the National Reference Center (CNR) for Arboviruses via serology with seroneutralization on November 4, 2022.
