The Triple S Project: Toward Guidelines for Syndromic Surveillance Systems in Europe Syndromic surveillance systems, which we rely on to provide an analysis of the regional health situation (see our March 11, 2011 edition), are also being studied at the European level. Since September 2010, the InVS has been coordinating the "Triple S-AGE" project (Syndromic Surveillance Survey Assessment towards Guidelines for Europe), which brings together 24 organizations from 14 different countries. This project aims to enhance European countries’ capacity to develop real-time or near-real-time surveillance systems and to explore a common approach to syndromic surveillance in order to improve the response to public health threats. The Triple S project will compile an inventory of the various syndromic surveillance systems already operational in Europe as well as those currently under development. The final outcome of this project will be presented in the form of a proposal for a harmonized European strategy on syndromic surveillance.Beyond its scientific dimension, the project will lay the groundwork for a European network of specialists in the design and implementation of syndromic surveillance systems, which will provide Member States with scientific and technical support for the establishment of such systems
