Public Health Surveillance in the Poitou-Charentes Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 24, 2012

Headlines - Measles Outbreak in France. Updated Surveillance Data as of August 9, 2012.

Since November 2011, following a slight resurgence in the number of reported measles cases in France, the monthly case count has remained roughly stable since December, with no notable epidemic peak between March and May, unlike in previous years. From January to July 2012, 728 cases were reported in France (including 3 cases of encephalitis and 28 cases of severe pneumonia, with no deaths). However, the virus continues to circulate, with the highest incidence rates observed in southwestern France. We must therefore remain vigilant and continue to ensure that the vaccination status of susceptible individuals is up to date with two doses of the vaccine, particularly among the population aged 15 to 30.
