Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of September 25, 2014.

Mortality: The number of deaths (all ages and those aged 75 and older) has risen slightly compared to last week and is at the threshold level (data will be finalized next week).

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room visits by those aged 75 and older remain below expected levels for this time of year. No significant changes for children under 1 year of age.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations were observed in September.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance Since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde—where the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is established—131 suspected cases have been reported.Among these, 54 cases of chikungunya, 25 cases of dengue, and 2 co-infections have been confirmed, all of which were imported. As of September 24, 2014, 3 cases of autochthonous dengue were identified in the Var department, with no epidemiological link due to a different serotype.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)Moderate activity, in line with expectations, in Aquitaine and France.

Asthma and AllergiesAccording to SOS Médecins and Oscour®, sustained activity for asthma and moderate activity for allergies in Aquitaine and France; stable compared to the previous week. Forecast: low allergy risk in Aquitaine.

Enterovirus meningitis: Circulation of the virus since week 26 in Aquitaine according to Oscour® and the virology department at Bordeaux University Hospital.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since July, in Aquitaine, 19 cases according to CAPTV and 4 according to Oscour® (461 and 188 in France).
