Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of November 18, 2015.

Mortality: The number of deaths recorded by civil registry offices is declining.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age and adults aged 75 and older is close to expected levels.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 147 suspected cases have been reported, including 6 confirmed imported cases of dengue and 5 confirmed imported cases of chikungunya. In total, as of November 16, in the 22 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 111 imported cases of dengue and 28 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. Six locally acquired cases of dengue have been confirmed in Nîmes.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations have been observed since November 1, 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, six incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including four in S43. One mass incident involved more than a hundred people, none of whom required transfer to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AG)In Aquitaine, as in France, activity is moderate and relatively stable, with figures remaining close to expected levels.

InfluenzaActivity remains low with a few sporadic cases of influenza in mainland France.

Bronchiolitis: A marked increase in SOS Médecins activity in week 46, with nearly 10% of cases involving children under 2 years of age; this marks the first week that thresholds have been exceeded, a trend that will need to be confirmed next week. In emergency departments, activity is also on the rise, with 9% of visits involving children under 2 years of age. The level of activity is higher—even significantly higher and occurring earlier—for SOS Médecins than that observed in the previous two years. The number of positive RSV isolates has also increased. AquiRespi treated 118 children, nearly twice as many as the previous weekend.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: No reports of enterovirus meningitis and 1 case according to the Oscour® network. Among the 19 positive respiratory virus tests, 8 were rhinoviruses and 8 were RSV.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since June 29, 2015, 118 cases according to CAPTV and 47 cases according to Oscour® (1,332 and 563 in France) (data to be consolidated). One severe case reported in Aquitaine.
