Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of May 2, 2013.
Key Points
Mortality
The number of deaths recorded in week 16 is consistent with the values typically observed during this period.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations
Activity related to emergency room visits by vulnerable populations (ages 75 and older and under 1 year) remains below alert thresholds and close to expected levels.
Reportable Diseases (RD)
No notable changes this week.
Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and AGE outbreaks in long-term care facilities
Both nationally and in Aquitaine, the number of consultations for gastroenteritis in hospital emergency departments and private practices is declining, with figures comparable to the two previous seasons.
Vector-borne diseases
In Lot-et-Garonne, the system for reporting and accelerated biological confirmation of suspected imported cases of chikungunya and dengue has resumed from May 1 to November 30, 2013.
Asthma:
Calls to the SOS Médecins network and to the Oscour® network’s emergency services for asthma, both in France and in Aquitaine, have been slightly more frequent in recent weeks. They remain moderate and close to the levels observed during the same period last year (all ages combined).
Allergies
Nationally, allergy monitoring indicators are on the rise. In Aquitaine, according to the SOS Médecins network, allergy-related activity has risen sharply over the past two weeks, which is consistent with the allergy risk detected by the RNSA.
School Absences
No notable changes this week.
