Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of January 30, 2014.

Mortality: Mortality rates recorded from vital statistics data have risen slightly in recent weeks, primarily among those aged 75 and older, but remain within the expected range for this time of year.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Following the peak in activity observed in Week 52, the number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age has stabilized in Week 4 but remains high. No significant changes for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO) No significant changes this week in Aquitaine.

Virology and enterovirus meningitis Circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, notably RSV, influenza A, and rhinovirus; slight increase in enterovirus meningitis according to Oscour®.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, activity remains high but stable according to the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins. An upward trend is observed at the national level.

Influenza and influenza-like illnessesIn Aquitaine as in France, an increase in all indicators of influenza activity except for severe cases admitted to intensive care. In Aquitaine, the threshold was exceeded for the second consecutive week based on SOS Médecins data.

Bronchiolitis: After several weeks of decline, there has been a slight increase in bronchiolitis diagnoses in Aquitaine and France, according to SOS Médecins, Oscour®, and the AquiRespi network, with 174 children treated on January 25 and 26.

Carbon monoxide poisoning: Since September 2013, 27 incidents (+10) affecting 55 people, 37 of whom were transported to emergency rooms (national level: 683 incidents, 2,048 people affected, and 22 deaths).

School AbsenteeismOverall absenteeism rate remains stable. Several cases of flu-like symptoms, ENT infections, and a few cases of gastroenteritis have been reported.
