Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of January 15, 2015.

Mortality: In late December and early January, the number of deaths (all ages and those aged 75 and older) recorded by civil registry offices remained stable and fell within the usual range of fluctuations observed during this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Activity among children under 1 year of age fell below the alert threshold due to the decline in the bronchiolitis epidemic. For those aged 75 and older, figures were close to expected levels following the increase observed in weeks 51 and 52 of 2014.

Notifiable Diseases (ND)No unusual situation this week.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)Sustained activity in Aquitaine, above the epidemic threshold for SOS Médecins consultations. In France, activity remains high, with figures close to the epidemic peak of previous years.

Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: The national epidemic threshold has not been exceeded. In Aquitaine, activity has intensified, exceeding the threshold for both data sources (8% of influenza-related activity for SOS Médecins, 0.4% for Oscour®). Most influenza viruses are A(H3N2).

Bronchiolitis: A sharp decline in activity was observed in emergency departments, among SOS Médecins associations in the region, and within the AquiRespi network.

Enterovirus meningitis and Virology: Significant circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to Bordeaux University Hospital, particularly RSV and rhinovirus.
