Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 4, 2014.

Mortality: The recorded mortality rate is in line with the levels typically observed during this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age continues to rise in connection with the onset of the bronchiolitis epidemic. No significant changes for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)3 cases of Hepatitis A in a nursing home in the region out of the 7 reported in November.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne Since May 1, 185 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 64 cases of chikungunya, 27 cases of dengue, and 3 co-infections have been confirmed, all of which were imported. Enhanced surveillance ended on November 30.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, activity is stable and close to expected levels. In France, activity is comparable to previous years, except for the number of emergency room visits, where an increase has been observed among adults.

Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: Activity is stable. The epidemic has not yet begun in France.

BronchiolitisIn week 48, bronchiolitis activity at SOS Médecins clinics and in emergency departments remains high but still below thresholds. Activity at AquiRespi doubled compared to the previous week, with 146 cases treated.

Enterovirus meningitis and virology: Circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, notably RSV and rhinovirus.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since July, in Aquitaine, 95 cases according to CAPTV and 17 according to Oscour® (1,167 and 461 in France). Note: particular vigilance is advised regarding the Bidaou species in the region, as consumption can lead to severe illness.

Carbon monoxide poisoning (as of 12/04/14)Since September 2014, there have been 9 episodes of CO poisoning affecting 22 people in Aquitaine. Nationally, reports have continued to rise since mid-October, including 9 deaths from accidental poisoning.
