Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 24, 2015.

Mortality: Current mortality figures are in line with expected levels for this time of year, both across all ages and by age group.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency department activity for children under 1 year of age has been above the threshold for the fifth consecutive week, likely due to the bronchiolitis outbreak. Activity is close to expected levels for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations have been observed since early December 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, 14 incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including 5 related to boilers, 3 to the use of barbecues/fire pits, and 2 to generators. In total, 27 people had to be transported to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, moderate activity, with a slight increase. In France, moderate activity, with an increase among those under 15 (emergency room visits) and those over 75 (SOS Médecins visits).

Influenza: Influenza activity remains low in all regions of mainland France and in Europe, but has increased very slightly compared to the previous week.

Bronchiolitis – High epidemic activity: A decrease in activity, which remains intense in emergency departments (22.9% among children under 2 years of age compared to 27.4% the previous week). Among SOS Médecins associations, visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age, which have decreased slightly, have accounted for more than 12% of weekly activity over the past 5 weeks. Activity in the AquiRespi network has stabilized at around 300 cases per shift.

Respiratory Virology and Enterovirus MeningitisNo reports of enterovirus meningitis according to the virology laboratory at Bordeaux University Hospital, and 2 cases according to the Oscour® network. Among the 47 positive respiratory virus tests, 10 were rhinoviruses and 28 were RSV (including 23 children).

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since June 29, 2015, 121 cases according to CAPTV and 49 cases according to Oscour® (1,393 and 620 in France) (data to be consolidated). Three severe cases reported in Aquitaine.
