Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 17, 2015.

Mortality: The mortality figures observed during the first week of December (Week 49, November 30–December 6, 2015) are in line with expected levels for this period, both across all ages and by age group.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency department activity for children under 1 year of age has been above the threshold for the fourth consecutive week, likely due to the bronchiolitis epidemic. Activity is close to expected levels for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations have been observed since early December 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, 14 incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including 5 related to boilers, 3 to the use of barbecues/fire pits, and 2 to generators. In total, 27 people had to be transported to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, as in France, activity is moderate and on the rise, with figures close to expected levels.

Influenza: Influenza activity remains low in all regions of mainland France and across Europe, but has increased slightly compared to the previous week.

Bronchiolitis – High epidemic activity: Activity remains intense, with high activity in emergency departments (27.4% among children under 2 years of age, compared to 26.2% the previous week). Among SOS Médecins associations, visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age remain significant and account for 13% of activity. Activity in the AquiRespi network has stabilized with 291 cases treated. In total, 18 samples tested positive for RSV, representing approximately 50% of positive respiratory samples.

Respiratory Virology and Enterovirus MeningitisNo reports of enterovirus meningitis according to the virology laboratory at Bordeaux University Hospital and 2 cases according to the Oscour® network. Among the 35 positive respiratory virus tests, 11 were rhinoviruses and 18 were RSV.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since June 29, 2015, 121 cases according to CAPTV and 47 cases according to OSCOUR® (1,384 and 568 in France) (data to be consolidated). Three severe cases reported in Aquitaine.
