Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 3, 2016.
Key Points
Mortality: Mortality rates for all ages and for those aged 75 and older are in line with expected values for this time of year.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: activity remains stable among children under 1 year of age, with numbers below expected levels, and a slight increase in activity among those aged 75 and older, with numbers above expected levels.
Virology: Among the 15 samples positive for respiratory viruses analyzed by the Bordeaux University Hospital laboratory, 8 were positive for rhinovirus and 3 for parainfluenza 1-3. Among the 23 respiratory virus-positive samples analyzed by the Poitiers University Hospital laboratory, 17 were positive for rhinovirus/enterovirus and 4 for parainfluenza.
Gastroenteritis: In the ALPC region, activity is declining and close to expected seasonal levels. Nationally, activity continues to decline and remains close to expected levels.
Chickenpox: Chickenpox activity reported by SOS Médecins is high and rising in week 21, with a proportion of cases above the alert threshold. The same trend is observed at the subregional level.
Allergies: Consultations for allergies are on the rise according to SOS Médecins. The same trend is seen in Aquitaine and Limousin, while consultations are down in Poitou-Charentes. Forecasts indicate a moderate to high pollen allergy risk for grass pollen and a low risk for oak pollen in the region.
Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika – Enhanced Surveillance in Aquitaine: Since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the departments of the former Aquitaine region colonized by Aedes albopictus, 24 suspected cases have been reported as of June 26, 2015. Among these, 3 imported cases of dengue and 4 imported cases of Zika have been confirmed. There are no locally acquired cases.
Notifiable Diseases (ND) in Aquitaine: No unusual situations have been reported since the beginning of May.
