Key Points

Flu indicators stabilize; pre-epidemic phase for the 8th consecutive week

Week 05-2022 (January 31 to February 6, 2022):

  • SOS-Médecins: 504 consultations for flu-like illness recorded, representing 5.4% of total activity (compared to 5.3% in week 04).

  • Oscour®: 149 emergency room visits for influenza or influenza-like illness, representing 0.6% of total activity (same as in week 04), of which 11% resulted in hospitalization. More than 80% of visits involved children under 15 years of age (as in week 04) and, more specifically, children under 5 years of age (54% compared to 53% in week 04).

  • Virology data:

    • Influenza A: 10 positive samples at Bordeaux University Hospital, 14 at Limoges University Hospital, and 13 at Poitiers University Hospital, representing a regional positivity rate of 5% (6% in week 04).

    • Influenza B: no positive samples at the Bordeaux, Limoges, and Poitiers University Hospitals.

  • Severe influenza cases: 3 patients admitted to intensive care reported in week 05, for a total of 10 since the start of surveillance in week 40-2021.

  • Clustered cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in long-term care facilities: 1 episode reported in week 05 with no identified influenza etiology.
