Key points
Mortality: observed numbers below expected levels for this period.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: among children under 1 year of age and adults aged 75 and older, emergency department activity remains close to expected levels for this period.
Virology: The number of positive respiratory virus samples from the laboratories at the Bordeaux and Poitiers University Hospitals increased in week 14 (70 positive samples). At the Poitiers University Hospital, of the 35 positive samples, the majority were for rhinovirus/enterovirus (18 samples), adenovirus, and bocavirus (5 samples each). At the Bordeaux University Hospital, of the 35 positive samples, the majority were also Rhinovirus/Enterovirus (25 samples).
Gastroenteritis: activity is stable according to SOS Médecins and Oscour® data, with values close to expected levels, below the alert thresholds for both data sources.
Bronchiolitis: indicators for bronchiolitis in hospital and outpatient settings are stable and at the expected levels for this time of year. Activity in the AquiRespi network has decreased compared to the previous reporting period, with 26 cases treated from April 8 to 9.
Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: low influenza activity in hospital emergency departments and among SOS Médecins, with values below the alert thresholds. No new severe cases of influenza were reported in week 14; the total number of severe influenza cases stands at 85 since November 1, 2016, including 20 deaths. A new cluster of acute respiratory infections (ARI) has been reported in a medical-social facility since the start of week 14 of 2017. Nationally, all indicators are at baseline levels, and sporadic detection of influenza viruses is observed in hospitals.
Notifiable Diseases (ND):
- An increase in sporadic cases of hepatitis A among males has been observed in the region since early 2017.
- An increase in reported measles cases in the region since January 2017 confirms that the virus is actively circulating in several departments of the region. A cluster of cases has been identified (8 reported cases) in the municipality of Saint-Junien (87).
Allergies: Following a sharp rise in allergies observed in Nouvelle-Aquitaine during Week 13, activity has stabilized in Week 14 according to data from the SOS Médecins associations. The increase continues nationwide among children aged 2–15. Note that birch pollen dominates in the northern part of the region, and there is a moderate risk for plane tree and oak pollen in the southern part of the region.
Chickenpox: Chickenpox activity reported to SOS Médecins is on the rise, though the proportion remains below seasonal expectations. Moderate activity is reported nationwide according to the sentinel network.
