Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of March 19, 2015.

Mortality: Following the rise in mortality observed in Aquitaine and other regions since the beginning of the year, the decline in mortality observed since S09 has continued across all age groups, including among the elderly. Since the beginning of the year, winter mortality in the region has been 21% higher than the expected mortality calculated based on the previous eight years. The contribution of influenza to excess mortality is known to be significant among the elderly, although it is not possible to specify its exact share in the excess observed this season. These assessments should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to delays in data transmission.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency department activity for those aged 75 and older and for children under 1 year of age is close to expected levels for this time of year.
