Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 9, 2015.
Mortality: In week 26 of 2015, prior to the heat wave, the number of deaths was within the expected range for that period.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency room activity for those aged 75 and older is in line with expectations. Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age is stable, close to the alert threshold.
Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne Since May 1, 37 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 1 imported case of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. In total, as of July 3, in the 20 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 248 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 25 imported cases of dengue and 7 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. There are no indigenous cases.
Notifiable Diseases (ND) No new reports this week.
Acute Gastroenteritis (AG)Moderate activity in Aquitaine with an increase in emergency room visits among children under 2 years of age. Nationally, there has been a sharp rise in emergency room visits among children under 2 years of age and adults over 75 years of age, with numbers slightly higher than expected.
Asthma and AllergiesIn Aquitaine as well as nationally, asthma consultations are stable. According to SOS Médecins, allergy-related activity is declining, while it is slightly increasing according to Oscour®. Forecast for this week: moderate pollen allergy risk for grass pollen in the region.
Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: A high number of enterovirus meningitis cases (4 virology reports from the University Hospital and 6 from Oscour®), consistent with what is observed nationally.
ChickenpoxIn Aquitaine, chickenpox activity is in line with expected levels for this time of year.
Heat-related illnessesIn Aquitaine, there has been a sharp rise in heat-related illness monitoring indicators, with 1.8% of total SOS Médecins activity (100 consultations) and 1.3% of total Oscour® network activity (132 visits) in week 27 of 2015. The level reached is significantly higher than the previous year, due to the intense and prolonged heat wave.
