Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 10, 2014.

Mortality: The number of deaths recorded based on civil registry data remains within the usual seasonal fluctuations, with figures comparable to those of the previous three years.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: The number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age is declining but remains close to the alert threshold; no significant changes for those aged 75 and older.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)Note: 11 cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported since May in Gironde, with no indication of clusters.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillanceSince May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the departments of Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde, which are infested with Aedes albopictus (tiger mosquito), 35 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 15 cases of chikungunya, 6 cases of dengue, and one co-infection have been confirmed, all of which were imported. To date, no locally acquired cases have been identified.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)According to OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins, activity is low and in line with expectations in Aquitaine and France.

Asthma and AllergiesIn Aquitaine and nationwide, activity is stable for asthma and decreasing for allergies according to OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins; the forecast indicates a moderate to high allergy risk (grass pollen) in the region.

Heat-related illnesses: Low activity according to OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins in Aquitaine and nationwide. No heatwave forecast by Météo France.

Enterovirus MeningitisSince Week 26, an increase in the number of enteroviruses isolated by the Bordeaux University Hospital, which corresponds to the number of viral meningitis cases reported by the OSCOUR® network.
